14 year old boy pain down below

I’m looking for advice really. My boy has groin pain after a bath tonight. He says he was fine before the bath and now has ball (testie) pain now. There doesn’t appear to be anything out of place but obviously not sure. We have asked and he says he hasn’t been kicked or accidentally hit by anything or anyone today at school.

we have contacted 111 awaiting a call back for their nurse or doctor. My mind is racing to wonder if the bath being a normal temperature has something to trigger it? He’s saying it’s just uncomfortable but also reports his calf is sore too? 🙈

we have a hot tub and he’s in and out of that all week with no issue. Any ideas please? TIA

If he were mine, I'd already be driving to the nearest A&E. It might be testicular torsion (a twisted testicle) and if it is that he would need surgery in the next few hours to save the testicle. It probably isn't...but not something I'd be gambling on.

Annoyingnamechangerperson · 03/05/2023 23:01

Was just about to advice a&e too my son had something similar last year and within 30 minutes of arriving he was be consented for theatre by the surgeons

FreakOfNature · 03/05/2023 23:02

Testicular torsion? It is a medical emergency and very painful. If signs/symptoms fit I suggest a trip to a&e if you don't hear back from 111 very soon, I hope he feels better soon 🙂

Agree with this. Best case- its something minor, but a torsion is classed as an emergency so for the sake of some embarrassment/waiting- I'd get him seen tonight.

Username84 · 03/05/2023 23:04

Immediate a+e as above. Worth going to one with paediatric surgery if you can.

Theunamedcat · 03/05/2023 23:06

They will send you to A&E pack snacks and make tracks

nocoolnamesleft · 03/05/2023 23:10

Do not pack snacks! Keep DS nil by mouth in case he needs emergency surgery!

Doggi · 03/05/2023 23:12

I’d go along to A&E. Better safe than sorry

Theunamedcat · 03/05/2023 23:13

Pack for yourself its fucking dire in most hospitals right now

chargrill · 03/05/2023 23:17

My DS had testicular torsion and needed surgery. It needs to be looked at asap because you can lose blood supply to the testicle. He had both his testicles untwisted and reattached during the surgery so he shouldn't ever have that issue again. The surgery itself was straightforward and quick. Good luck.

BabyST · 03/05/2023 23:17

My son suffers a lot testicle pain. If this is the first time then you need to go to ED as others said it could be the start of them twisting. Being in the bath could just co-inside with the onset. I hope you get on okay and all is well after an examination and maybe a scan

BreatheFocusRelax · 03/05/2023 23:18

Definitely agree, A&E would have been opinion too.
Hope he's okay x

I would go to AnE as I know someone who had emergency surgery with a twisted testicle.

Better to be safe.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/05/2023 23:29

A and E right now, don't delay, he needs to be checked asap is case it's a torsion like pp's have said.

YoungWild · 03/05/2023 23:30

Thank you all so much. We are just waiting for my sister to come and stay with my daughter and we are just going to head to the hospital. I think he could be in trouble the pain is increasing after paracetamol 😪

A&e been there and it’s something they will take v seriously

VeronicaTimeTurner · 03/05/2023 23:32

Glad you're going to A&E (and glad I read this thread, I have boys and had no idea about this).

Hope your DS is better soon 💐

Purplepeoniesdroppingpetals · 03/05/2023 23:32

It’s a time critical thing - if you’re going to be waiting long, can she collect your daughter from the hospital?

Aquamarine1029 · 03/05/2023 23:34

Thank goodness you're going to hospital. Better safe than sorry.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 03/05/2023 23:34

Agree, if the pain is getting worse you need to get him there ASAP

YouCould · 03/05/2023 23:55

Poor lad! Hope it settles on its own.

Joystir59 · 03/05/2023 23:59

Hope he's feeling much better soon

VeronicaTimeTurner · 04/05/2023 05:04

@YoungWild how is he now? Hope you've not been waiting too long.

YoungWild · 04/05/2023 06:17

@VeronicaTimeTurner hes asleep for the moment we have a bed in a cubical. He’s had a scan waiting on the results, bloods, left side of the sack is empty which is the painful side. They have paracetamol in the drip a little while ago. The surgeon is coming to meet us when the results are back. I’ll of course update when more is known
