14 year old boy pain down below

I’m looking for advice really. My boy has groin pain after a bath tonight. He says he was fine before the bath and now has ball (testie) pain now. There doesn’t appear to be anything out of place but obviously not sure. We have asked and he says he hasn’t been kicked or accidentally hit by anything or anyone today at school.

we have contacted 111 awaiting a call back for their nurse or doctor. My mind is racing to wonder if the bath being a normal temperature has something to trigger it? He’s saying it’s just uncomfortable but also reports his calf is sore too? 🙈

we have a hot tub and he’s in and out of that all week with no issue. Any ideas please? TIA

Take him to ED now… tell them that you are worried about testicular torsion… it’s very time critical.

Erm maybe have a quick read of OP’s posts?

I'm so glad you went to the hospital. This is identical to what happened to my son at the same age.
He has a prosthetic testicle and his wife still doesn't know!!

Covidwoes · 04/05/2023 12:43

So glad you got to the hospital OP!

Timtamtaffee · 04/05/2023 13:22

Oh God! I read your post and was thinking you needed to make haste to the nearest A&E! Hope he's ok - how worrying for you x

YoungWild · 04/05/2023 13:31

i Feel like a bad mom 😞 I thought initially the pain was just due to the hot bath but as soon as it went bad we went to the hospital. He’s had surgery this morning for torsion and they have brought the testie back down to where it should be. He’s got an infect there too so we are in for the night and maybe home tomorrow.

not that it matters now but we never got that 111 call back.

You are NOT a bad mum - a bad mum would've ignore your child's pain. I'm glad he is on the mend and hugs to you xx

BreatheFocusRelax · 04/05/2023 13:44

You are not a bad Mom at all.
I'm pleased he has had surgery & will soon be on the mend!
Sending you a hug & wishing you son a speedy recovery xx

AlwaysTheGoodGirl · 04/05/2023 13:52

Poor boy, hope he's on the mend soon. And don't go thinking you've done anything wrong! You knew when you had to take him to hospital and you did. He's had the surgery and now everything will improve. I had this indecision the other night, waiting for 111 to call back which they did eventually, but I feel we should have gone to a&e sooner than we did. He's fine now but you do doubt yourself, so I understand. But you are a great mum! You got him the help he needed Flowers

Well as I said before I never would’ve known and I have 3 teen boys. You are definitely not a bad mum, a bad mum wouldn’t have posted here for advice.

Glad he’s been sorted and hopefully he’ll be on the mend soon. You’ll soon be home for the bank holiday weekend, chin up.

ps 111 are flipping useless 😡

How does his wife not know? 😲😊

Polkadothot · 04/05/2023 14:03

Thanks for posting this OP. As the mother of teen boys it's something to take note of.

I'm glad he's through the op and on the mend. Well done for getting him to a and e. Mind yourself now too, it's been very stressful all round.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/05/2023 14:10

Testicular pain really is a surgical emergency. Unfortunately many teenage boys suffer in silence until they are in agony because they are too embarrassed to tell their mums. Glad your son is ok.

Polkadothot · 04/05/2023 14:20

Yes, I'm going to have a chat with my boys now to make sure they know it's important to tell us if they have pain in that area. I can well imagine them not wanting to say anything so I'm glad of this thread.

MathsNervous · 04/05/2023 14:27

DS aged 12 had emergency surgery for twisted testicle last year. It was a medical emergency. He was operated on within the hour of arriving at hospital.

Hopefully it isn't this for your son and something more innocuous.

MathsNervous · 04/05/2023 14:30

Ah just read your update. Sorry it was twisted testicle but glad you promptly got him seen and has had his surgery. Time for him to recover now. Lots of rest . Speedy recovery to your son.

lljkk · 04/05/2023 15:18

wow, thanks for update. Hope he recovers quickly.

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 04/05/2023 16:41

OP, you're a great mum!

Glad it's sorted

sexnotgenders · 04/05/2023 16:53

@VeronicaTimeTurner I'm more concerned about why his mum knows his wife doesn't know!!

PinkPlantCase · 04/05/2023 17:03

Oh OP this must have been so stressful for you and your son. I hope he’s home soon and your all about to recoup a bit over the long weekend.

I am quite amazed though at how many people have had the surgery within an hour of arriving at A&E when I hear of women with ectopic pregnancies or even ovarian torsion (much less common than the male equivalent) often having their pain minimised and having to wait a very long time for doctors to get to the bottom of things.

sparkleywallpaper · 04/05/2023 18:14

@VeronicaTimeTurner it's not as creepy as it sounds...... honestly. They had come to my house for Sunday Lunch a few years ago and my daughter in law asked me a question about her younger brother who was having an operation (I'm a nurse so it wasn't unusual) . I wasn't even going to mention my Son's operation but I was aware of him giving me a 'disapproving' look and shaking his head. Later that day I asked what the look was all about and he told me that he had never mentioned his op. to his wife.
As a nurse I know that a prosthetic testicle appears normal.
It's quite a common problem and operation .

MarvelMrs · 04/05/2023 18:20

Very glad you got it sorted. Well done for going to the hospital.
That is the problem with 111, they take too long to ring back. I have had this many times and
then it just increases the pressure on A&E & Urgent Care as people don’t want to use 111. They appear to need more staffing/better systems to triage. The staff are working hard but not enough of them.

itsgettingweird · 04/05/2023 18:24

You're not a bad mum.

You didn't know what was wrong. Rang 111 and asked online for any other advice.

You acted on that advice.

You should be proud of yourself for listening and proud of your ds for telling you.

Madamecastafiore · 04/05/2023 18:26

DS has had this twice OP luckily I'd heard of it before but it's not something you would know otherwise. Glad you got it sorted. DS is fine now, also had infection but ABs cleared it up quickly. It's awfully painful, he'd show it to anyone when it happened even the porter hoping they'd be able to help, every doctor was young female and extremely pretty and he didn't care, just wanted the pain to stop, then was hideously embarrassed afterwards.

It may happen with the other one. The Dr warned us of this so when it did we were straight in for a carbon copy of round one!
