14 year old boy pain down below

I’m looking for advice really. My boy has groin pain after a bath tonight. He says he was fine before the bath and now has ball (testie) pain now. There doesn’t appear to be anything out of place but obviously not sure. We have asked and he says he hasn’t been kicked or accidentally hit by anything or anyone today at school.

we have contacted 111 awaiting a call back for their nurse or doctor. My mind is racing to wonder if the bath being a normal temperature has something to trigger it? He’s saying it’s just uncomfortable but also reports his calf is sore too? 🙈

we have a hot tub and he’s in and out of that all week with no issue. Any ideas please? TIA

Thinking of you OP, hope he's on the mend and it's a better day today xx

YoungWild · 08/05/2023 13:34

I’m so lost for words. I feel so many of you helped and are on our journey. The hospital have been amazing I can’t fault them I was worried as they are know to be terrible.

He is brighter today isn’t not to keen on moving far from the bed and the pain is managed but still pretty bad. He was reviewed earlier this morning and decided to go with the antibiotics for sepsis and check the wound daily to see if they need to go back to surgery with him or not. I’m not sure what his blood pressure is normally but it’s still around 90/50. He’s got loads of medication being pumped into him. I hope he stays good today but we are not sure how long he’ll be in for. Definitely a few more days. He’s at least happy no school this week (the worries of a kid 😂) I’ll try and update again later tonight.

it’s heart warming to know other parents can read this threat and hopefully help their son 💙

Glad he's been a bit brighter today despite everything working against him. He sounds a right warrior. He has more than earned a break from school bless him

Chimchar · 08/05/2023 15:25

I'm so glad he's doing alright. I can't imagine how worried you've been.
Sending you all hugs and wishing for a good recovery very soon x

Polkadothot · 08/05/2023 17:25

Very glad to hear he's a bit brighter now. Hopefully he is through the worst of it💐

BabyST · 08/05/2023 17:25

This sounds horrendous sepsis can be terrible I am so sorry he has developed it. I hope he is on the mend now. I have been in the hospital countless times with my son and his bits. I recommend leaving the ward when he is up to it even in a wheelchair for a walk to the front of the hospital to give him something else to look at for a while. Even some close visitors when he is up to it. Sounds like the hospital is doing a magnificent job looking after him. Reach out if you need anything we are all here in support of you @YoungWild 💝💐Make sure you look after yourself too make sure you can get plenty of sleep

VeronicaTimeTurner · 08/05/2023 22:52

Oh @YoungWild hopefully he’ll turn a corner soon and you’ll both be back home. Hold on in there 💐

YoungWild · 09/05/2023 14:58

I have lost count of what day it is. He is a bit brighter again today he slept all night. I don't really understand this bit but his blood tests today show his infection markers pretty similar to 2 days ago so they are continuing with IV antibiotics. He had a temperature of 37.7 and his heart rate was 118 earlier so they are just watching that, they are saying this is his body fighting the infection.

He was seen by a specialist doctor from Endocrinology who examined him except for his testicles for obvious reasons but has ordered another scan and they have taken 7 bottles of blood from him to check his hormones and other bits. He is still pretty tired and exhausted after walking to the end of the ward and back. We have taken him out in a wheelchair to the front of the hospital for some fresh air. We try to do this a few times a day. Otherwise he is okay is playing games on his computer. He is still sore but he has come off the morphine now and takes codine tablets instead. Home is not in our sights just yet but maybe we can hope for the end of the week.

Poor you and poor son. Are you staying all the time ? I ask this as you probably need a break !
Could you get his father / family member to stay so you can get a shower , a decent meal and hopefully a night in your own bed .

Floralnomad · 09/05/2023 17:20

Hope he gets well soon and you get home with no further setbacks

@RuthTopp yes I have been. His dad was working over the weekend and couldn’t get it off. He’s with him tonight so I could spend time with our daughter and he could spend time with our son. I’ll be back up there in the morning after the school run. He’s got a temperature tonight again so I feel the end has been taken from us.

Hope he's beginning to turn the corner op.
You must be exhausted Flowers

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 10/05/2023 18:18

Oh bless you op I think the infection marker they're talking about might be his CRP, this shows as high when the body is fighting an infection. It's probably a bit soon to see this start to drop but as long as it's not increased that's okay.

It sounds like the Drs are keeping a close eye on him which is really good.

You must be worn out, make sure you have plenty of food in that will be quick to prepare in readiness for when he's discharged, is he eating okay in hospital?

Xiaoxiong · 10/05/2023 18:19

Thinking of you today OP. Hope you managed to get some rest and your son's temp has come down again.

GirlInterrupted · 10/05/2023 19:08

Just checking in. Hope your son is getting better.

YoungWild · 10/05/2023 19:38
Thank U GIF by chiara

I am honestly so grateful you are asking it has brought me to tears tonight. Today is day 7 or tonight will be day 7 of this story from hell. I can honestly say today is the first day I am absolutely exhausted. I fell asleep for a few hours on the sofa today after the school run while my husband was up at the hospital last night and all day pretty much today. I have come now and will stay the night.

They have mentioned this CRP being high but I don't understand it much. They have changed the antibiotics today. His temperature has been up and down all day. He has slept on and off today. He didn't get out of the bed much only to the loo and had a wee accident in his sleep. They have given him some bottles to use tonight just in case. Andy said they redressed the wounds straight away.

Andy my husband will be back up tomorrow after the school run and I will go home for a few hours. I am very drained and feeling it hit me 😔Its just one thing after another it feels, set back after set back.

Oh your poor boy, I really do feel for him, and you and your husband too. I hope the change of antibiotics speeds along the healing process for him and he is feeling better soon. I'm not surprised you are exhausted. Try and rest when you can x

Floralnomad · 10/05/2023 19:58

Blimey this is really dragging on for you and your family , hopefully the new antibiotics will help .

VeronicaTimeTurner · 10/05/2023 20:10

Oh it's so awful. Make sure you're eating and resting properly. Hopefully the new antibiotics will start taking effect soon.

My Ds had some weird thing a couple of years ago when he was admitted to hospital, he was very poorly (they weren't sure if it was meningitis or not) and his CRP levels were through the roof, they thought he had sepsis too. Anyway they tried him on various antibiotics and he went from being in bed not being able to move much back to pretty much normal. So although it seems totally hopeless at the moment they can take effect pretty quickly so hopefully your DS will be as right at rain soon enough. My DS's CRP level stayed high for a few weeks after even though he was better in himself. (They never did find out what was wrong with him). So what I'm trying to say is once your DS turns that corner he will hopefully be back to normal very quickly. Hang in there x

dig135 · 10/05/2023 20:15

You sound like you're doing a great job in difficult circumstances. I've been in hospital with my kids for a few hours and it felt like an age. So I can't imagine how you feel a week later.

Just to echo other posters, kids can bounce back unexpectedly quickly so fingers crossed he turns the corner soon.

YoungWild · 10/05/2023 20:48

I honestly can’t say thank you enough.

@VeronicaTimeTurner did your boy have much complications while in hospital? Did he have much problems after being stuck in bed for awhile? Sorry a thousand questions

OP posts:
VeronicaTimeTurner · 10/05/2023 22:01

No he didn't, they gave him an injection in his stomach to stop blood clots. But like you we tried to get him out the bed as much as possible but it was hard as he just had no energy (he was like an old man just trying to move him in the bed).
But he literally bounced back to normal as soon as the right antibiotics were given and he fought off whatever it was (he was about 17 at the time).

I'm really hoping your DS shows some improvement very soon.

YoungWild · 10/05/2023 22:21

That must have been so stressful for you as it is for us. He’s not had any blood clotting injections yet but has the socks on. We are trying our best to get him out on the chair even for an hour but he’s not keen. They are keeping him in HDU they have him wired up to a heart monitor and check him every few hours at night.

we really hope this antibiotic will be the one. I hope your son has recovered and remains well.

I'm sorry to hear he's still not out, hopefully soon! Take care of yourself too.
