Hi, I have inadvertently put adult bonjela on my nearly 10 year old DS's massive ulcer. I've fucked up haven't I? It was not even a little-fingertip amount, about a minute after it went on I spotted that it was the adults one and wiped it off.

He said he did swallow a little bit, and has since brushed his teeth and washed his mouth out with water.

I am waiting for 111 to call me back..

Any experience of this? Fucks sake.

He'll be absolutely fine. Don't worry.

Modda · 28/04/2023 18:02

I used to use the adult one on DS when he was about that age, he had terrible ulcers and the other ones didn't work. He will be absolutely fine.

captncrunch · 28/04/2023 18:02

At 10, I also wouldn't worry about this at all.

normally I wouldn't worry but online is loads of terrifying news of kids developing horrific Reye's syndrome- just having a panic and feeling shite!!!

Honestly he will be fine. It's a one off and he's 10. Please stop worrying lovely he will be fine.

Is that not after prolonged, regular use, rather than a tiny dot rinsed straight out?

sausagepastapot · 28/04/2023 18:05

Thanks all- ordinarily I am v.level headed about this sort of thing...Just having a bad day overall and this is the icing on the cake I think!!

It's literally only an issue if you use it constantly

This is what I read too, not sure why I can't calmly process this info today though...!!

Thank you, that is a relief to read too. where did you grab that from?

Also the only cases of this Reyes disease and Bonjela have been under 2 in this country. Also they don't know if it's the link between the ingredient in Bonjela or the viral infection that the children had at the time and it's not ethical to test out things on kids so they moved the age up to 16

www.nicswell.co.uk/health-news/bonjela-child-advice-qa there you go

@sausagepastapot because it's not easy to be calm and rational when you read scaremongering headlines related to your own child. Hopefully you'll feel better when 111 call back Smile
