Black specks in baby poo - blood?

My four month old hasn’t been very well this past week. Usually does 2 poops a day, but suddenly that changed to every other day and they were slimy/mucusy.

Yesterday he started with a temperature and tugging his ear. He has been very moany too.

Today he did another slimy poo, and there were dark brown streaks in it. I’m so worried about what it could be.

He is exclusively breastfed, so nothing new with diet.

Any ideas?

Just waiting for doctor to call me back some point this afternoon.

Did he eat banana?

I remember something similar in my LO’s nappies when they began weaning.

Hi, no, he is still just breastfed. Really don’t understand what could be causing it.

Seems a little happier now he has filled his nappy though. Could it be constipation?

Could be constipated or could be related to teething.

I remember my son had weird poo’s when he was teething and I couldn’t work out why. When I spoke to my GP and other parents, it seemed to be common.

Weird reading this as I could have written it myself! My 4 month old hasn’t been well the last couple of days and has had very mucous poos but just noticed his last one with specks of black in , maybe 3/4. Did you get any answers? Hope all ok

Hi @Charlotteap

I know this post was a few months back but just wondered if you got to the bottom of this please?
my 5 month old ebf baby has black dots in his poo this evening. He’s had a viral infection and been on antibiotic eye drops since last week, and poos have been slimy as he is swallowing lots of nasal mucus, but not sure on the black specks.

thank you!

@Cdoc Hi , I rang the dr as he ended up having maybe 3 nappies in a row that had the same specks in, the dr told me to keep an eye and it never happened again so didn’t end up getting seen. Do definitely get a gp appointment if worried but his seemed to clear up when he began feeling better

@Charlotteap thank you! Glad to hear it cleared up for you, will definitely try and get a GP appointment just incase.
