Bumps at base of daughters skull

Hi All,

My daughter is 8 months old. At about 4 months I noticed 2 hard lumps at the base of her skull. I freaked out and took her to the doctor for reassurance. She had DD lie on her tummy and as the bumps seemed to go when she turned her head, but were more prominent when she was on her tummy or facing forward, she put it down to being related to muscle.
However, the worry has since started to come back. We lost a child in 2021, so my anxiety around DD's health is very high.
I don't think they have increased in size, and DD is meeting all of her milestones etc. But has anyone else's baby had something similar and it just be muscle related?
I am going to take her to the GP again next week as we're on holiday currently.

Sorry for your loss, it's understandable you are worried. But if the GP wasn't worried and DD seems fine I think she's probably ok. GPs tend to refer to paediatrics for everything with babies if they have even the slightest concern.

I'm sorry for your loss and totally understand why it would cause such high levels of worry. If it helps, my daughter also has them. I was also extremely worried. I took her to the gp and mentioned it to the hv. Each time I was reassured it was fine. Tbh, the worry didn't ease until her hair grew and I could no longer see them. I knew from their advice - and lots of googling - that it wasn't sinister but I couldn't stop my mind running away with terrible thoughts.

I remember my youngest had little hard lumps at the base of his skull at the same age. My sister is a gp and checked and said it was fine. Can’t remember what she said it was, nodules or cartilagey bits or something. But nothing sinister.

My son had these. The HV had a look and said they were normal. He's 23 now.

Thank you all so much for your reassuring words. None of our friends have children, so we've nobody else to ask to see if their kids have them.
Thank you so much

They aren’t raised lymph nodes are they? Two of mine had these - very normal for a long while after infections. GP reassured. Try not worry.

Mine had these too. Think they were lymph nodes. You can often feel them on babies and children as they have much less subcutaneous fat than adults.
