DS has this virus going round but not responding to meds

Hi, can anyone advise please?
DS has this virus going round and has had all he's allowed of calpol & ibuprofen in 24 hours and the last dose of calpol didn't work. He's pale and cold but feels hot. His ears are hurting him too. What should I do?

What do you mean they aren’t work?
He is cold but hot? Do you mean he has a high temp but hands/feet feel cold to touch? If yes, go to A and E. If you mean he has a temperature but says he is cold that is fairly typical reaction to a virus.

When can he next have nurofen? Calpol never brings my dd’s temp down, always have to wait for next nurofen dose.

How hot is he?

when you say he is pale and cold but feels hot do you mean he is composing he feels hot or his actual temperature is high?

I wouldn’t assume it’s a virus especially with earache

might need antibiotics

His hands and feet are cold to touch but he has a hot head. He's asleep at the moment.

Thanks. He can't have any more untol tomorrow morning at 6am. Calpol is rubbish to get fever down, yes.

Do you have a thermometer? any idea how hot he is? It can be hard to know a temperature by just feel (for example, a temperature over 40* that isn’t coming down does need urgent attention if you’re nymph sure what’s causing it)

The fever with cold hands and feet is not good - can be a symptom of meningitis or sepsis. I'd ring 111 for that and the fever not responding to meds.

DH was with him today and he said it was up a bit. Now he's asleep so i can't take it as it's not an ear one. Yesterday he had a temp of 38.6. The ibuprofen got it down

How is he today? A fever with cold hands and feet needs immediate medical attention. He could have spesis, in which case every minute counts.

Sorry for the late reply. Thanks for asking. He's ok. It was a very nasty cold. The doctor said he has blocked sinuses which was causing ear ache. His temp went down which was a relief. Now me and DH have colds..I have got through 3 big boxes of tissues in 2 days!! It's a stinking rotten one this time!

It can be a symptom of sepsis but it is also a very normal symptom of a viral infection.

Thanks. Yes he's fine now thank god. It was a virus and knocked us all out. Me & DH still have the after effects and I can't even hear in one ear any more
