Ecoli in urine potentially and chills sweats

My 6 year old DD has had a sore tummy for 4 days. This morning I called the GP as thought it may be a UTI. She previously tested negative for a UTI but they sent away her urine sample and it showed up Ecoli. They have sent her sample away today and said I won’t get a result until Monday.

she is asleep now but it’s sweating I’ve woke her and she said she is cold. Her temp is 34 so seems very low.

should I panic and call NHS 24?? Any advice appreciated

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Yes- I think you need to call I’m afraid if you can’t get it to stay up above 35.7
that’s a low temp….my dd had suspected ecoli last year and there’s a syndrome that can happen with it (very rare) they may want to look out for. I’m sure it won’t be that but better safe than sorry with kids x

Thank you @wobblymum1 so much for your reply
my husband is so laid back compared to me and is blissfully sleeping. I woke him up and he’s just like she’s fine as long as she’s still drinking . . . Helpful!!
anyway her temp is now at 36 and she doesn’t seem to be as sweaty. This is so horrible. I always think at night things are so much more frightening

Poor dear, did they do a dipstick at the GP today?

smm23 · 17/02/2023 00:52

@HoldMyLatte Yes which came back clear and they sent her urine sample off to the lab.
the same thing happened about 6 months ago and came back with ecoli in the urine so I’m expecting the same again
she seems to just be sleeping soundly just now but I worry about everything so this is really stressing me out

I'd take her in rather than waiting. The low temperature is a bit worrying.

Hope she is doing well, and you managed to get some rest too.

Also to note I wouldn't put much faith in the dipstick and cultures, they are notoriously unreliable. If she has symptoms of a uti she likely has a uti. Hope you have managed to get things sorted.

Sounds like when my DD had UTI/kidney infection. I hope you got her checked out.
