Hi,

My daughter looks like she may be going through early puberty. Breast buds, some light pubic hairs and underarm and easily upset.

Looking back I think she started showing signs months ago but I didn’t realise and did not think this could happen so young.

She has been referred to see a paediatrician so waiting for this.

Has anyone else experienced this so young? What was done about it? Did you require treatment, was this hormone therapy or anything else? Did it help? How are your kids now? Any advice would be really really appreciated.

Feeling awful right now and hoping I’m not too late to help her and really worried about whether there is help for her.

Thank you in advance

@rainydaysandcake

I am glad to hear she is happier and hope all goes well for her. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Can I ask what symptoms she had at 6/7?

Also did she see an endocrinologist then about the symptoms or once the period started? Just wondering how much they can tell from tests, if they thought she would start soon or not? Also, was the endocrinologist based in London?

I spoke to the GP as I was concerned she had breasts developing, started having a discharge, and she had got very tall, and her body shape had changed, she had a proper waist, hips, no straight up and down like other girls her age: we first saw the general paediatrician and was referred for tests, including X-ray, mri, a hormone test, it just happened that following these tests she started her period so was seen sooner and started treatment straight away

No we live in another city with a childrens hospital where we were referred

@sayna I asked the GP for referral to Dr Lee Wadey at Epsom hospital, specialist paediatric endocrinologist with an interest in precocious puberty. He could tell from her tests she still had a good two years until her period would start when she first saw him at 8y4m. We continued to see him and be retested every 6m until very accurately she started at 10y8m.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this OP. What a minefield to navigate.

My DS6 has a different situation but early puberty and accelerated growth is part of his genetic condition. It's hard not to watch him like a hawk for signs. So far he's got the accelerated and uneven growth, but no puberty yet. Bone scans ok though so far, no lasting damage from that yet.

Sorry for babbling- Just wanted to echo that you definitely need to see an endocrinologist, as well as the Paediatrician you're already booked for.

Best of luck, it's so hard when you first have to wrap your head around something like this X

@Dustyblue thank you, yes it’s a minefield. Still waiting for endocrinology, hopefully will get some advice soon.

I wish you and your son all the best with his health x

@rainydaysandcake thank you for letting me know. Can I ask what the X-ray showed, if it was older than her age? X

@34and3 Thank you for sharing. We have had some investigations and are waiting to see someone. Can I ask whether the X-ray and ultrasound were ahead of her age?

Yes the X-rays showed that she was age 11.5,

34and3 · 07/02/2023 16:07

@sayna her hand X-ray was only 3 months ahead. She got her period 2y4m after developing breast buds

Hi all,

Thank you for sharing your experiences so far.

Has anyone had the Lhrh test? Does anyone know if this is the same as the Gnrh test and if anyone faced any side effects?
