10 week old white and black tongue - thrush?

my 10 week old baby had antibiotics in his first couple of weeks. He’s had a white covering on his tongue a lot since, but most people have said it’s just milk curd (including a couple of doctors). In the last few days I noticed it was a bit thicker and also some blackness there too.

I have no pain or signs of thrush on my nipples, could it be thrush though? Anyone else experienced this with their little one?

I spoke to a doctor today and have an appointment on Monday. He suggested if it’s thrush we will need drops. Are these relatively low impact on baby? I don’t want another thing that upsets his well-being, like the antibiotics with his gut health.

We are currently seeing this in my 5 month old and getting treated for thrush but curious what your outcome was and how long it took to clear up. Doctor said they were unfamiliar with a grey to black tongue due to thrush.
Thank you

so we were never 100% sure but we bought a tongue scraper and although it wasn’t pleasant/ easy for the baby (or us), it was a build up of milky residue with what looked like black fluff. If we hadn’t done the tongue scraping it would definitely have continued to build up, so that was the right solution for us. It came back a little bit, but again with a more gentle tongue scrape we got rid of it! Good luck :)
