Is vomiting a symptom of chicken pox?

A Google search suggests it can be, but just wondering if anyone has experienced it with their little ones (or anyone they know for that matter!) 6yo had a fever yesterday afternoon and overnight, has woken up with spots which I'm pretty sure are chicken pox (she was exposed 2 weeks ago so the right timing), and saying she feels sick. She then said she was hungry so had half a slice of toast and butter and vomited it straight back up. What's the likelihood she's caught a stomach bug on top of the chicken pox? She's not been around anyone with a stomach bug that I know of - we did go shopping on Saturday but she had hand sanitiser on and washed hands frequently. Other than that not sure where she could have caught a tummy bug!

Yes definitely. I was in bed for a week with it when I was 10. Sickness, high fever, fluey feeling. IME the older the child the worse the symptoms can be. Toddlers often seem to breeze through it.

Hope DD feels better soon Flowers

Oh dear doesn't sound nice at all! But I hope it is the chicken pox rather than a stomach bug too!

I've just seen this while searching for answers myself.
My 4 year old DS has chickenpox at the moment (covered in spots) they started appearing yesterday, so I guess we’re on day two or three as there may have been one or two I didn’t notice on Friday.
He's been mostly fine today, but woke up from sleep about an hour ago crying and had been sick all over his bed.

How is your daughter now? I know this is quite an old post (last month) but wondering how she was after that and how quickly she got over the CP? Or was it something else on top?

Hi Mozfan

I really hope your little one is much better! My 7 year old has also got chicken pox and woken up and being sick tonight, he’s complained of a headache just before bed and when he first woke up. His temperature is normal (it was 38 before bed, so we gave him some calpol)

It’s so horrible when they’re unwell isn’t it - I really do hope your little one gets better soon too x

Sorry Mozfan, I haven’t used Mumsnet in ages 🙈 I didn’t know how to tag you in my reply above xx

@BJOmummy
Aww poor thing. My DS is still very pale and looking sad this morning. He’s come downstairs to watch TV and have a chill time. But he wants his blanket on. He just wants to sit on the sofa, he’s usually a very active and chatty boy, so he must be feeling bad.
There are lots more spots that have appeared overnight ☹️ He’s covered, poor thing and so irritated.
We’re doing a head and shoulders bath a couple of times a day and before bed, plus using Poxycillin on his skin afterwards (not sure if that’s the correct spelling) and it seems to be helping a little bit.
He hasn’t been sick since last night and hopefully won’t be.

Howe your son now?

BJOmummy · 13/02/2023 22:06

Oh bless him, I’m so sorry he’s feeling so poorly! It takes it out of them so much doesn’t it 😓 I really hope the spots aren’t causing him too much distress, how is he feeling this evening? I really hope the baths and the mousse are helping! We’ve got the same mousse too and it does seem to really soothe them doesn’t it, poor little ones x

I’m so glad your little boy hasn’t been sick again, mine hasn’t either which I’m so grateful for, I really hope they both won’t again now. My son has been a bit brighter since this afternoon and had more of an appetite today, his spots have started to crust over a lot today 🤞 and are much less itchy! I really hope that your son will be the same very soon, please keep me updated x

sending lots of love and get well wishes xx
