ds1 is 3 years old and is totally fine all day. But the moment I've put him to sleep he gets this awful awful cough, it's horrendous and chesty. I get so worried he'll choke I end up having him in our bed, and therefore no sleep for me or dh!

Has anyone been through the same? how can i help him? tia x

I may be wrong but I think a cough at night can be an indication of asthma maybe.

FromDespairToHere · 30/12/2022 00:20

Yeah a night cough can definitely be a symptom of asthma in a little one

strugglingdaily · 30/12/2022 00:21

Asthma.

Agreed, ventolin and Montelukast has cured my DC’s nighttime cough.

Thank you for your quick replies, it hadn't occurred to me that he could be asthmatic! Glad i asked now, trip to the GP in the morning for us. I will update x

I don't think asthma. My toddler and all my friends' toddlers have or have had this at the moment with the specific night coughing thing. Mine has just come out of it after almost two weeks of coughing at night sometimes vomiting. Is now fine! I think it's related to a virus.

Mine has this. He’s on preventer inhaler and ventolin two puffs twice a day and montelukast and while it’s a bit better it’s never fully gone away. We’ve got a referral to hospital as it may not be asthma - his also sounds mucuousy and he has a constant snotty nose which can’t help! Good luck

This could be an allergy. This was the first sign my ds had a dust mite allergy. Tomorrow strip the bed and wash everything at 50/60 degrees. Hoover under the bed and mop. Really blitz every inch of the room!

other tips to try at the mo are anti allergy bedding, air purifier if you gave one, An aloe plant.

if diagnosed then carpets and curtains in the bedroom must go.
