Baby is on sma Althera due to suspected milk allergy started on Thursday last week. She was suffering terrible wind (farts) which was combined with explosive diarrhoea raspy wet breathing and green poo.

The farting and wet breathing has stopped but the poo is still green and it smells terrible. There isn’t any lumps in it really it just seems quiet wet and thin.

Breast or bottle fed? Looks relatively 'normal' for breast fed to me (there's a big range of 'normal'). Not sure about formula poo though.

I've just had a look at the ingredients in Althera and although it claims to be low-allergen it contains whey and skimmed milk and soya.

I think you need to speak to the medics again and say that the baby's tummy is still very unsettled and they should try you on a dairy-free formula. Bear in mind many dairy allergic babies also can't tolerate soya.

DD's nappies were like this until I dropped the hospital-prescribed formula. She turned out to have a dairy allergy (still does at 5 years old)

She is formula fed. Was gaining weight fine on the normal formula before doctor prescribed the althera.

Echo PP above.
Could be the soya in the formula.
My DS couldn't do dairy, couldn't do soya. Oat was his only option.

Hello - any update on this? My baby is exactly the same and poo looks the same

yaboreme · 13/02/2023 15:46

My son had a milk allergy. Poo looked like this for a good while after taking Nutramigen, give it a couple of weeks to settle. If no change back to doctor/ dietician.
