Hey, I will obviously be ringing the doctors tomorrow but wanted to know if anyone had experienced this and what eventually ended up happening?

My 2 year old has confirmed strep and was prescribed penicillin originally but after trying numerous pharmacy’s couldn’t find it anywhere. Eventually told there was supply issues and there would be none available for the foreseeable. He was then given Erythromycin. I managed to get 2 doses in him yesterday but with lots of gagging but today he’s thrown up 3 out of 4 doses more as I’ve tried to give it him again as he was throwing it up the second he tried to swallow it. I’m obviously panicking with what’s going on at the minute with strep A and I’m worried the doctors are just going to tell me to persevere but it’s impossible and he’s not getting any of it.

You definitely need some intervention by medical staff here as the antibiotic concentrations won't be sufficient.
An you call the non emergency phone number now and get professional advice tonight - please do this and good luck. I'm sure it'll be just fine but worth the time and effort

I’m not surprised he’s throwing it up, erythromycin tastes absolutely foul, it’s incredibly bitter.

You need to speak to someone about this.

erythromycin Is notorious for causing vomiting and diarrhoea. Clarithromycin Is easier to take.

This is a very common reaction to that antibiotic. My DS had a similar reaction when he first had it as a baby. We never accepted it again

I definitely won’t be accepting it again. I’ve got 2 older children and I’ve never had any problems giving them other antibiotics.

It was pure chaos at the doctors yesterday no body seemed to have a clue. While I was there 4 other people came in saying they couldn’t get the antibiotics they had been prescribed. Which is making me worry more that there going just tell me to keep trying.
