DD (8), DS (4) and I all had a horrible cold and cough last week. DS had a temperature for a couple of days then was right as rain. I felt awful for a few days and still have a sore throat and congestion but pretty much recovered. DD (8) on the other hand has had a fever for 7 days now.
She started with a fever and cough on Friday. She was tired but didn't seem too unwell in herself (eating, drinking, chatty) so I wasn't worried.
On Monday she told me it was hurting when she did a wee. Her temperature was still up and down (between 38.4 and 37.5) although she seemed better in herself. I took her to the GP on Tuesday morning (day 5 of fever) and he prescribed an antibiotic for a UTI. He said this is probably why her temperature wasn't coming down. He said the throat thing was viral, he looked in her throat and ears, listened to her heart etc and said he wasn't worried. He told me that he expected her to be better after 1 day of antibiotics.
This morning she says her wees aren't hurting anymore. Her throat is still sore but she is eating and drinking normally and is not distressed. she still has a fever though (38.2)! Neither of my children have ever had a temperature for this long before. She has had two days of antibiotics and I'm starting to worry as her temperature still hasn't come down.
Would it be reasonable for me to call the doctor and ask for another appointment if her temperature is still raised tomorrow morning?
