8 year old on day 7 of fever

DD (8), DS (4) and I all had a horrible cold and cough last week. DS had a temperature for a couple of days then was right as rain. I felt awful for a few days and still have a sore throat and congestion but pretty much recovered. DD (8) on the other hand has had a fever for 7 days now.

She started with a fever and cough on Friday. She was tired but didn't seem too unwell in herself (eating, drinking, chatty) so I wasn't worried.

On Monday she told me it was hurting when she did a wee. Her temperature was still up and down (between 38.4 and 37.5) although she seemed better in herself. I took her to the GP on Tuesday morning (day 5 of fever) and he prescribed an antibiotic for a UTI. He said this is probably why her temperature wasn't coming down. He said the throat thing was viral, he looked in her throat and ears, listened to her heart etc and said he wasn't worried. He told me that he expected her to be better after 1 day of antibiotics.

This morning she says her wees aren't hurting anymore. Her throat is still sore but she is eating and drinking normally and is not distressed. she still has a fever though (38.2)! Neither of my children have ever had a temperature for this long before. She has had two days of antibiotics and I'm starting to worry as her temperature still hasn't come down.

Would it be reasonable for me to call the doctor and ask for another appointment if her temperature is still raised tomorrow morning?

In a very similar situation as you with my 3 year old

Been unwell for 2 weeks, got better after a week but then 2 days later became unwell again with fever etc, on his 2md lot of antibiotics. He's just stsrted day 3 of his antibiotics, but last night he still had a fever

He has tonsillitis, but it started with just a normal throat infection and conjunctivitis!

Google is also not helping me and making me very paranoid!

Have you gave Nurofen or Calpol for the temp?

Yes, it brings it down a bit but not for long. I ended up calling the doctor again today as DD went really lethargic, which she hasn't been previously with this bug, and her temp went back up to 39. They think that the antibiotic has cleared the UTI but that what they thought was a virus (causing sore throat, cough and fever) is actually bacterial so she needs a broad-spectrum AB instead. The ones she was on wi have just targeted the UTI. So after ringing round several pharmacies due to shortage have now managed to get some Amoxicillin into her. She has only had one dose and seems to have picked up a little bit already. Her temperature is still high but she is less lethargic and just seems a bit more her normal self.
