3 year old son was sent home from nursery Monday with very bad temp, managed to get him to doctors and they sias bacterial tonsillitis

Was ill the week before, got a bit better then unwell again

He didn't get the 1st dose of antibiotics till Monday night (waited hours for prescription)

He still wasn't well yesterday but there was a massive improvement in him today, he was playing, running around, eating etc, but this evening his temperature has spike again (came down with nurofen)

Is this normal or should I be concerned??

Is it normal to still have a temp 2 days into antibiotics. I was so pleased he seemed so much better this morning, and now so worried again with the spike of temperature

It can take a few days for improvement to show with antibiotics. I would give it a couple of days before worrying. I’m the meantime keep him hydrated, as much as you can with a small child.

No this is normal the antibiotics don't really start to get on top of the infection until after 3 days in IME. If towards the end of the course he is still spiking temps or if he starts to get worse during the course then get him seen again. If he has had an improvement today that is a good sign and hopefully he will continue to improve.

Thank you both. This has reassured me.

Thankfully he has been very good with drinking and staying hydrated!

Hopefully tomorrow there will be more improvement again

Temperature has spiked again today, I would have thought after this amount have time he would have stopped getting a temperature 😣so worried, tried contacting gp but they woild not help, so now I've had to resort to sitting up A&E as I really think he needs to be checked again as this has now been lingering for 2 weeks with the on and off temperature

What did A&E end up saying OP? X

@Mummyof32020 after waiting 7 hours they said his tonsillitis had stated to clear up, and they think he may have caught a viral infection inbetween! Which I think could be possible as I now feel like I am getting ill and his little sister is all bunged up! Seems like he is catching everything at the moment bless him (1st year at nursery) he definitely seems a lot better the last few days, and touch wood has not had a temperature since Thursday evening.

Hoping and praying he continues to improve as we are going abroad for Christmas next week (which will hopefully do him good)
