7 year old protein in urine, nose bleeds and constipation

My 7 year old was seen in A&E a couple of days ago with acute stomach pain and vomiting. Dr thought initially could be a gastro bug or constipation as he is prone to it. X-ray confirmed massive amount of impacted constipation so is now on disimpaction regime of movicol. When they did a dip test in his urine at A&E the Dr mentioned he had protein in his sample (i'm sure he said something about number 4?) which he said he shouldn't have. He said it could've been a contaminated sample (not sure how) but to get the GP to repeat the test and if it still shows, then he needs to have kidney function tests done. My DS has always had the occassional nose bleed, maybe a few time per year but he's had 5 this week alone with 2 today. They start spontaneously at various times, middle of the night, during the day.
I'm concerned something could be seriously wrong, whilst hoping this is just all an unfortunate coincidence. Has anyone else had any similar experience with their child?
