Hi my dd 11 has been away for a week with grandparents to Spain. Before she went she complained of belly pain on and off and sometimes had a funny stomach but nothing serious. Today she’s been to toilet and there is what I believe to be undigested food in her stool. I’m not sure what it is it looks a bit like chips but we haven’t eaten any chips in the last 3/4 days. Don’t worry I’m phoning the drs for an appointment on Monday but my drs can take a while and I’m freaking out. Pics attached

I cant tell the texture from the pic but could it be the skin of something like a tomato or pepper. They sometimes pass through undigested.

FannyFifer · 29/10/2022 18:49

Well that is very weird indeed, what on earth had she eaten.

FannyFifer · 29/10/2022 18:50

Doesn't look like anything parasitic if that's what you're worried about.

Amarette · 29/10/2022 18:50

Could it be partially digested orange peel?

Yesthatismychildsigh · 29/10/2022 18:52

I agree with Hellocat. It looks like a piece of pepper.

Franki88 · 29/10/2022 18:52

Hi they look like and feel a bit like chips but we haven’t eaten any chips, she’s had the same meals as me since she got home on Wednesday and I’m fine. Naturally I’ve quizzed her if she had chips etc on holiday but she says no and I’ve double checked with my mum

My mum said maybe lemon peel but I’ve asked her and she said she hasn’t eaten any lemon peel ( she doesn’t usually either) and it’s more of yellowy golden colour like chips so I don’t feel it’s orange peel

I’m not sure what I’m worried about to be honest. She has no other symptoms, but I do have ulcerative colitis so I don’t know if it’s that but I presume it wouldn’t be just a one off it was @FannyFifer

@Hellocatshome hi, we haven’t eaten any peppers and the pieces are too big to be tomato they were all shaped and the length of chips

For some context we had chilli con carne this week, pizza and salad and then fish pie. This is the only toilet movement she’s had that’s been like this.

Banana peel? One has that little bit on the end like the bottom of a banana.

Angrymum22 · 29/10/2022 19:07

Dried fruit? Looks like mango strips or possibly the fruit ribbons. The colour would be stripped out by stomach acids. They are difficult to chew but you can chew them into a ball for swallowing and they will unravel on the way through. A lot of fruit is mainly cellulose that our bodies can’t digest.

Franki88 · 29/10/2022 19:08

@Pixiedust1234 no bananas she doesn’t like them

@Angrymum22 thank you but no she hasn’t eaten any dried fruit and no mango. The only fruit she’s had is an orange but not orange peel as I peeled it for her and threw it in the bin. I’m just trying to find something to put my mind at ease while I wait until I can phone the drs

The first thing that came to my mind was onions?

Franki88 · 29/10/2022 19:15

@TheVelvetOnion no onions either. I’ve listed the foods we’ve eaten in another reply I posted. Thankyou though

Thank you for all your help. I don’t think I’ll get to the bottom of it. Just need to call the drs first thing Monday and see if I can get her an appointment. It’s on my records that I have IBD which they left untreated for 2 years so hopefully they’ll take me seriously. Even if it turns out to be nothing I need to know. Her bowel movements have been floating a lot lately as well so I think something is definitely happening

You say she doesn't like bananas but what about banana flavoured sweets which look like bananas? Or something stretchy like strawberry laces type sweets or fruit winders which might not be digested properly if she has digestive issues?

Good luck with the GP and hope you find an answer.

Franki88 · 29/10/2022 19:37

@Pixiedust1234 thankyou. But no she hasn’t had any of these things
