Child fell off a shopping cart

I was at the supermarket earlier today and saw a child crying with two adults. I could see the adults panicking and repeating she fell off the cart what if she hit her head, arguing they will never do shopping with kids again etc just panicking while the kid was crying for it’s mother (who was not there).

when they went past me I said aaw did she hurt herself, the man said yeah she fell off the cart and now she has a nose bleed. She was bleeding from both nostrils poor thing. They were saying she probably hit her nose. I told them to go ask for some ice for it and they went off. I wish I had done more, liked looked for a bump around the head, told them to take her to the A&E and I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all day. I hope she will be ok.

i guess I’m posting to be able to get my mind off of it, to see if anyone’s kid has suffered an injury like that and been ok.

That's horrible, I would feel the same as you.
Poor kid 🥲

I guess if your really worried and think something may be a safe guarding concern then the shop will have cctv of the incident and the police can possibly trace them if they came in a car etc.
Hopefully the child was taken to A+E once the mum got them back

I don’t know if the man was the child’s parent, from the comment of them saying they wouldn’t do shopping with kids again I would guess he was as you wouldn’t really say something like that if you were looking after someone else’s kid. I didn’t see the incident so I can’t really say if there’s a safeguarding concern, what I found concerning was that they were arguing rather than trying to help the child. I just saw afterwards they went to ask the staff for ice, so at least that’s the first step.

Yes my kids fell off a trolley in a moment of distraction and have lived to tell the tale. I also dropped one on the beach and gave a bloody nose. Great guilt at time. But kids are resilient.

Was it two men? There’s really no need for you to have done more, I imagine they were capable of looking for a bump on the child’s head without assistance, and if they did need assistance I’m sure once the staff were alerted that a child was injured in their store they would offer it. Sometimes these things are stressful though, hence the arguing.

She’ll likely be absolutely fine. Children injure themselves everyday and realistically there’s very little you could have done.

Thanks Kellie45, it’s good to know these kind of injuries can happen with a nosebleed but the kid would end up ok.

it was a couple but the woman was holding the child and she was crying she wants her mummy

Distressing for you to see so understandable that you feel how you do. I'm the same when I see things like this
