Primary oral herpes and a cut lip from a fall

Hi

I'm pretty sure my DS is currently suffering with primary oral herpes - awful ulcers all in his mouth, in lots of pain and struggling to eat and drink.
Worst timing, he tripped over yesterday and his tooth cut his inner lip badly, lots of blood and is left with quite a sore swelling.
I'm just concerned the hsv might get into this cut and cause a nasty infection? He's only 3 so struggling to get him to let me look properly or do anything to it. He has quite a bad smell coming from his mouth and its causing him to talk with a lisp.
Should i speak with gp? He's also booked to have his tonsils out in under a month, so I'm worried this all may lead to his much needed op being delayed. Grateful for any advice/experiences.

Tia.

He's obviously got something going on if he's having to have his tonsils out and this could be the cause of the smell? What specifically makes you think he has oral herpes and not just normal mouth ulcers?
Defo call the GP and get proper advice.
