Called to Hospital After eye exam

My DD had an eye exam at the opticians last week. here eye sight has got worse and is particularly bad in 1 eye. When he did the test to check the back of her eye, he did it twice and then said he was going to send the images off to the hospital consultant as she has what look like fatty deposits on or behind the optic nerve. As she has it in both eyes, he wasnt overly worried. Anyway I got a call yesterday for an appointment today at the hospital. My mind is racing and I'm petrified it will be a brain tumour (the optician did say something about that but its a blur) . has anyone had anything similar happen and had a good outcome? I am literally petrified! Surely if it was nothing to worry abou they wouldnt have booked her in that quickly??

Sorry to hear this. I don't have any specific advice other than that my daughter has differences in her optic nerve so we have regular hospital consultant appts. But just know you will be well looked after. I read on another thread recently that, when you have children with urgent or complex needs it feels like you've unlocked 'NHS plus'. Thinking of you today.

Oh also, not sure how old your daughter is but if she's young enough, try to treat the appt like an opportunity for quality time / an adventure...hospital cafe, exploring a new place etc etc

@OhWifey thank you. Did your DD get an appointment quite quickly when she was referred?

The eyes weren't the first issue. We were already well inside 'NHS Plus' by then. But yes when her first issue presented (blood vessel related), we were seen the next day. The waiting is horrific but you will be well cared for.

Ds had an eye exam one year where they told me he needed to be referred urgently for an MRI scan and they'd do it immediately with my agreement. I think it was swelling on the optic nerves. As it happened he'd just had an MRI, and all was fine, so I told them that and they were happy with that.

I've known this happen to a few children, and all have had nothing wrong. But it does need checking.

Thank you everyone . Luckily it’s just an eye issue that can be controlled. Possibly peripheral loss but I’m just happy it’s nothing more sinister
