Overuse of baby nurofen

Hi mommas.
I've been giving my baby 'baby nurofen' on and off for the last few months for teething. LO is 10 months.
I might give one to five(5 being thr most per week probably) doses per week if teething is bad but never more than 3 doses in 24 hours.
There have of course been weeks with no doses at all.
I find it's better than paracetamol and teething powder is a nightmare to give to LO because baby won't take it.
Teething gel lasts for maybe 5 minutes.

I'm worried I've giving my baby too much over maybe a 6 month period and have done damage to his kidneys or liver?

Any experience with this or any health professionals with advise in this wouod be appreciated.

My first baby went through some really bad teething periods and I gave her Calpol nearly every night for weeks. I was worried like you and asked the gp about it when I was there for something else. His words went something like 'you could give her Calpol every night until she is 96 and you wouldn't do her any harm'. I was so relieved! I'm not sure whether this would apply to ibuprofen as I know this does have implications for the stomach. Also not recommended for anyone with asthma etc. Can you alternate with Calpol so that you are not giving it so frequently?

I stocked up with Calpol and Nurofen for my second baby - hardly ever needed it so far!!!! Weird how different they are.....

'you could give her Calpol every night until she is 96 and you wouldn't do her any harm'.

Honest to god that is what the gp said to me!

There is a lot of incorrect information on this thread. Please talk to your pharmacist or your doctor for correct medical advice.

Again I don't use it at any sign of distress.

You have been giving it for 6 months and your baby is 10 months.

I might give one to five(5 being thr most per week probably) doses per week if teething is bad but never more than 3 doses in 24 hours.

There have of course been weeks with no doses at all.

Even with weeks off, you realise that this is excessive use.

My comment has been hidden by mumsnet because it had a link in it which I guess they feel is dodgy! But it's a link to a study on ibuprofen addiction. It is real. Rare, but real.

Ibuprofen is also known to cause digestive tract bleeding in some people (including my exDH).

I would rotate with calpol e.g. nurofen first, then calpol 4 hours later.
