18 month old with horrendous stomach pain

Hi Everyone, Just keen to understand if anyone has experienced anything like this or has any tips. We are kind of at our wits end. My 18 month old son started suffering with what appeared to be be excruciating stomach pains around 8 days ago. After 4 days in hospital consisting of 3 ultrasounds, an x ray, an MRI, two blood tests, three urine tests and two nose/ throat swabs it seems the only thing they can find is transient small bowl interssusception which could be the cause of the pain. Calpol and buscopan do not touch the sides and he had to be given morphine one night in hospital. For the last two days he has been fine in the day time with no episodes but still seems to be suffering at night. The doctors have advised there is nothing else they can do to and no other drugs we can give. The message seems to be just ride it out and it should stop at some point. It's horrendous seeing and hearing him in pain and I just wondered if anyone has any similar experiences with a positive outcome? Thanks

I have never heard of just 'waiting it out' for intussusception. Have they not given him a barium enema or an air enema? That would be the usual treatment that I am aware of although I only ever worked in adult colorectal wards so may be different for children. So sorry you're going though this, it's so terrible yo see your baby in pain.

That would be for the standard small bowl into big bowl interssusception when it is just small bowl to small they cannot use an enema or operate as it tends to be moving in and out all the time
