Itchy toes but no rash in 5 year old

Hi! Really hope someone can help 🙏

I've scheduled a doctor's appointment but it's a while a way and I just can't seem to find out what's going on!

My daughter complained of itchy toes around 2 weeks ago. No redness, no bumps, no dry skin. Nothing. The itch I believe is around all day but is 'worse' at night as I think it's all she can think about and during the day she's more distracted.

It's at the bottom of her toes. It sometimes spread to the soles of her feet, and sometimes on her fingers. During this period, she's complained of a feeling of a 'snake going down her leg' and most recently the itch being between her nail and nailbed on her little toe and she wanted to rip it off 😢

I've given her loads of different creams, hot compress, cold compress, massaging, and iron medicine (I read somewhere this can help?). None seems to have really helped apart from the iron medicine (only a little bit). It doesn't seem to be severe enough to go A&E but at the same time I'm getting concerned. Anyone have any experience of this that can shed any light whilst I wait for this appointment?

The first thing I thought of was athletes foot. Have you tried antifungal cream?

Mosaic123 · 13/08/2022 07:30

And anti histamine tablets?

Yes I tried antihistamine but unfortunately didn't work.

With Athlete's foot, I thought there were signs on the feet such as dry skin or redness? She hasn't had anything like that...her feet looks normal. Can she still have it?

I really suffer with athletes foot. Sometimes I can see the skin peeling off between my toes but the itching will be all across the tops of my toes and onto my foot where there isn't a rash. I can also feel the itching without much of a rash. It can be so bad it can wake me up at night. It's certainly possible to have a fungal infection eight out a significant / visible rash. I'd be surprised if you'd never seen peeling skin although you say it has only been two weeks.

How old is she? The only thing that touches mine is lamasil once but I don't think young children can use that, it's fairly strong.

She's 5 at the moment but thank you for taking your time to comment. I have seen athlete's foot in my research but since the symptoms always referred to itching between toes and redness, I dismissed it.

To know that it can visually be symptomless, I may have a look at what my options are now for creams! Thank you
