Sickness swollen lymph nodes enlarged spleen

IV never posted here before I am feeling desperate to see if anyone's child has had the same symptoms as my 4 year old daughter and the outcome. I'm going out of my mind with worry. She has been having sickness episodes for over 1.5 years now alway in the evening/night, she goes very quiet and lethargic she starts by saying her head is hot inside she sometimes feels a bit clammy but others times not. She will then fall asleep and wake anytime after this cough and then start vomiting then will get up and walk about as Normal and start playing. She gets quiet sweaty at night even though she will just sleep in shorts and kicks the covers off. She has quite loose stools too which are sometimes quiet greasy looking. After many many!!! Trips to the GP they said reflux and maybe dairy allergy we cut out dairy nothing happened still having these episodes 2-3 times per week. We have now be referred to hospital, the Dr has carried out an abdominal ultrasound which showed swollen lymph nodes in her upper stomach and an enlarged spleen. He has requested bloods for this which she is having done tomorrow, we are also awaiting the results of her MRI head done the other day and allergy skin test. I'm not looking for medical advice I just want to see if anyone has experience similar symptoms with their child as I am going out of my mind with worry.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. My first thought was coeliac disease. I have this myself although it didn’t develop for my until early adulthood. The sickness and loose stools fit with coeliac as well as the enlarged spleen and lymph nodes. If you don’t get anything conclusive from the blood tests I would push for a coeliac test asap. Your daughter has to continue eating gluten during the diagnostic process though. Good luck xx

@soootiredddd thank you so much for your reply i have been looking at the symptoms for this and she does fit some of them. The Dr at the hospital has been very good and has actually added this to the bloods already at my request.

Hey op. Been watching this and thinking of you.

It must be very worrying but, in the kindest way, I'm not sure you will get the reassurance you understandably want here.

Best to wait for the doctors to do their investigations and let you know what they think- it sounds like it could take some unpicking.

Here for a handhold though, if you like

Nat2005 · 29/07/2022 13:56

@physwizz Thank you for your reply, yes I think I'm just desperate to hear that someone else has experienced similar symptoms in their child and has all been a good outcome. The waiting game is the hardest part hopefully we get answers very soon! And thank you <3

So thought I would just update this post, spoke with Dr this morning who has said her MRI brain has come back that she has a small cyst in her brain, fluid in her sinuses and enlarged adenoids. Her cancer maker is slightly high he said it should be 250 and hers is 295. He said he isn't worried and doesn't feel any action should be taken, he would expect a child with cancer to be up in the thousands mark. Full blood count, iron, vitD, liver, kidney ect came back fine but still awaiting some bloods. He is giving her a steroid nasal spray and then going to review her once the rest of the bloods are in. To me this all seems alarming am I over reacting or should I get a second opinion??

Also I feel no closer to finding the cause of the sickness and runny stools

Thanks for the update. Though frustrating that you are no closer like you say.

Do you know the speciality of the doctor who discussed the results with you?

GP or consultant at hospital? And if consultant was it neurological or other?

Nat2005 · 02/08/2022 13:38

@phphyswizz so we were referred to pediatricians at the hospital and it was the registrar that saw my daughter and requested these scans/tests he was also the same person who rang with results.

Ok. That's good.

It sounds like they are being pretty thorough so I would be reassured by that.

Guess you could wait and see what they say when the rest of the bloods come back as I don't think they will just abandon you and dc. If they don't find anything they still have a duty to get to the bottom of the symptoms and should consult other specialists in order to get answers.

Hang in there 💪Flowers

physwizz · 02/08/2022 13:56

They should of course also be looking for a reason for the enlargement of adenoids which can be in response to infection - let's see what they say. Still handholding!

How is dd?

Jasmineblossom24 · 21/10/2022 12:17

@Nat2005 any update about your DD? x

Nat2005 · 01/12/2022 15:02

Thought I would just update this post. Since DD was given 1 month course of omeprazole she has not had 1 sickness episode since 🤞. Her lymph nodes in her abdomen have gone back to normal, they never re done her bloods but she is absolutely fine in herself again. I'm so relieved that we seem to now be past this and she can just go on as normal. The cyst in her brain they are not worried about it many young children have them apparently. She is just now awaiting an appointment for her adenoids and tonsils but nothing to worry about. Thank you all so much for your messages 💕.
