I’m just wondering if anyone else can help me. My son is 1 in 2 weeks and has had a high temperature now since Friday. It has been spiking right up to 39.8. I’ve taken him to doctors which they ruled out ear, chest, throat and uti infection. He has no other symptoms and it’s just worrying me now. Has anybody else experienced this? I just want to know what’s causing such a high temperature

No advice, but same with my 4 year old

Nibletmum · 17/07/2022 16:09

You've probably checked but watch out for spots. Both of mine have just had high temp before chicken pox x

SuperdrugKeysDemon · 17/07/2022 16:23

Same with my DS two weeks ago - thankfully the fever broke after about 48 hours. Calpol, milk, water, & ring the GP or NHS 24 if you are worried or the temp won’t come down.

I thought it was probably covid.

Georgia1512 · 17/07/2022 18:27

So strange isn’t it, I have a 6 year old and never seen a temperature without any other symptoms apart from teething but 39.8 seems far too high for teething

@Nibletmum we had chicken pox in the house about 2 months ago and my son never caught them from my daughter so not sure it could be that. Thankyou for the advice someone else said to check for spots also as there’s an infection called roseolia which presents itself with fever then spots

My son and I have just had this - 48 hours of very high fever, fine a few days later. Negative LFTs throughout. No other symptoms.

It was really weird but I guess it's just a flu-like bug. Nurofen works better than Calpol to bring the fever down.

Wouldloveanother · 17/07/2022 18:30

Are you giving nurofen? Much better at bringing down fevers than calpol. DD has had many, many similar bugs - a high fever with no cold/cough. Just hot and miserable!

Georgia1512 · 17/07/2022 18:30

@SuperdrugKeysDemon yeah I’ve been giving him calpol and Nurofen following doctors advice, also did 2 covid tests which both came back negative x

@Numbat2022 I’m keeping my fingers crossed it will pass soon, he’s been like this for just over 48 hours so hopefully will seem better in morning. Yes I’ve been giving him Nurofen which seems to be helping. How high were your little ones temp if you don’t mind me asking

My child often had a temperature with no other symptoms, it means they are fighting a virus.

Keep an eye on the NHS advice page and get help from a doctor if you have any worries - better to check twice than never www.nhs.uk/conditions/fever-in-children/

Georgia1512 · 17/07/2022 18:33

@Wouldloveanother yes I’ve been alternating between calpol and Nurofen. He’s very sleepy and hot that is his only symptoms, he’s normally such a happy little boy so hopefully this doesn’t last long as it is also his first birthday in just over a week!

@carefullycourageous yes I will do Thankyou so much

PinkPlantCase · 17/07/2022 18:34

I think it’s fairly normal tbh and there’s so much going around at the moment, it’ll pass in a few days.

Wouldloveanother · 17/07/2022 18:35

keep an eye out for rashes, check the nappies to make sure he’s weeing, and make sure the temperature comes down after nurofen - if any of those aren’t right, then that’s my 111 rule of thumb 😊 it’s horrible when they’re ill. You have my sympathies!

Numbat2022 · 17/07/2022 18:35

My highest temp was 39.4, my son's was a bit lower - probably 39.2? When he last had Covid it went slightly over 40. It is really worrying when they're very little but just keep an eye on him. I would take him back to the GP tomorrow if still over 39.

Georgia1512 · 17/07/2022 18:55

@Wouldloveanother thankyou so much for your advice and yes he’s weeing as normal and drinking plenty of water and milk, just not really got a big appetite for his food.

Georgia1512 · 17/07/2022 18:56

@Numbat2022 oh really that is high bless him and yeah it’s so worrying. Yes I’m planning on taking him back if he’s still burning up.
