Weird ear symptoms in 3 year old? Anyone else had this?

My little girl woke up last night screaming that she had ear ache, no temp, otherwise okay, so I gave her neurofen and brought her in my bed expecting this was the beginning of an ear infection

however when she woke up this morning she said it didn’t hurt at all. But her ear was all crusty and there was loads of dried ear wax on the outside. Like it had all poured out in one go in the night.

she has been fine all day - is this something that needs further investigation? I wonder what could have caused the pain to come and go so quick? And what had happened with all the ear wax?

we were away on holiday last week and lots of swimming took place so wondered if that could be related? Also went on an areoplane.

any advice? Anyone had this happen to them? Thanks

Perforated ear drum?

Sounds like her ear drum burst in the night. DD had this a couple of times on the back of recurrent ear infections but if you were swimming and flying last week it sounds like it's likely related to that.
