Does this sound like early signs of chicken pox?

DS (5) has been generally unwell since last Sunday. I'm wondering whether it is early symptoms of chicken pox since over the last 6 weeks at least half of his class has come down with it. So far his symptoms have been

Sunday: one bout of sickness and diarhea fine for the rest of the day .
Monday and Tuesday: fine but mentioned eyes were sore
Wednesday: had a headache (never had one before), sore stomach and eyes were sore. Didnt eat any dinner and went to bed v early as he was exhausted
Today: sore belly and head also had a nap at lunch which he never does and is a bit off his food.

I kept him off school monday due to Sunday sickness and today as his stomach was hurting but I dont want to take him to the doctors if hes contagious? What do you guys think?

You mention taking him to the doctor. Why do you think he needs to see a doctor? Is something worrying you?

@ShowOfHands well if it's not chicken pox I'd be worried. Hes been off his food, lethargic and had a headache and stomach ache for 4 days as well as a bad stomach ache and my ds is deathly afraid of doctors so wont mention feeling unwell unless he really is

I think it’s impossible to say, it could be any number of viruses, have you done a covid test? I’ve heard it can present as you’ve described in children. I hope he’s feeling better soon

I would do an LFT with those symptoms.

4 days wouldn't worry me for a virus. I'd look for all the usual things like fluid intake, hydration, control of fever, lucidity and rousability etc.

But it sounds like you're worried so no harm seeking advice. Maybe from the NHS number at first?

My dc were both off colour before chicken pox spots developed but only for a couple of days. They were sick and off food before Covid properly hit as well.

Thanks for the suggestion @Cakelover17 and @RandomDent I didnt think of covid. Just done lateral flows for both my son and myself and both negative

For my 2 kids the first sign of chicken pox were the spots. They went off food M, were itchy and a bit sore and felt generally unwell but that was about it.

Not my experience of chicken pox but wouldn't even cross my mind to ring the GP about those symptoms. I'd give Calpol
regularly and make sure he had lots of fluids and rest.
