Glue ear- grommets or steroid nasal spray with allergies

Hello Brew

Does anyone have experience of trying steroid nasal spray to reduce the congestion in the ears before going for grommets?

Any experience of the grommets op and how it went for your child?

DS is 3 and has congestion in one ear with hearing loss. They’re reviewing him in 2 months to see if it resolves.

He’s a wheezy boy with lots of allergies hence considering steroid first.

Thanks!

Both my ds had grommets and or adenoids , tonsils done before they were 4, for eldest ds who had significant hearing loss it was life changing for youngest ds who had constant infections they eased immediately. We were not offered nasal spray so cannot comment but the operation was fine and recovery was quick. Youngest ds also had asthma and allergies.

Thanks so much for your insight. I guess I’m most worried about him being allergic to the GA as he’s such an allergic child (but only foods, not medicines so far). Im glad it helped all of your children. DS has speech delay so we’re hoping it’ll improve that for him.

Two of mine had speech problems, one had adenoids out and grommets in, the other grommets. Made huge difference to speech. I was amazed how many kids were there for procedure it must be very common problem
