3 year old sleep apnea…Urgent referral…how long?

My child has really bad sleep apnea. His tonsils are huge and he can’t breathe through his nose either so possibly large adenoids. I showed him video evidence so he sent me a urgent referral to ENT.

My child has had previous bronchiolotus episodes too where he’s been hospitalised 3 times and now he’s on a brown inhaler. I’m worried how all these things are affecting his heart.

The GP referred us 2 weeks ago but still not heard anything. I rang the GP again on Monday as DS sleep apnea was bad and I couldn’t sleep as I kept looking to see if he was okay. He gave me the number to ring them, which I did and receptionist said they’ve had a meeting and just have to wait.

Realistically how long is the wait? Surely sleep apnea isn’t good for his heart….

My then three year old was the same, it was a couple of months before we saw ENT, but once we did, about a week later we had a sleep study done and two weeks after that his tonsils and adenoids were removed. It was never mentioned to us that it could harm his heart, just that his behaviour and sleep were obviously negatively affected. The consultant was very relaxed about it all, although it looked very distressing to see him stop breathing.
