Hi all ,

My just over 4 month is always struggling to move bowel. And I'm wondering if this is normal. He was EBF when we it first started. I have been informed that it can take up to 10 days. It was happening so regularly and causing him a lot of discomfort that I was informed a 1/2 of teaspoon on pear purée may help, especially because he was showing all the signs he was ready. So at 4 months and 2 days I started, and it worked for a bit. But now again we are in day 7 of no poop. I stopped giving him pear purée 2 days ago. I know all the stuff he can take and am currently giving him some medicine to relieve constipation. But just want to know how normal it is. Especially since it happens so much.

Thanks for taking the time to read

It’s really common and 10 days is fine. Breastmilk is like astronaut food, there’s very little waste so not much to get rid of.

@Footnote even though he has been having 1/2 of a teaspoon of pear purée in the mornings ? Is it still considered fine

Thanks so much for your response.

My daughter was the same. Different to my boys who were every couple of days. That amount of Pear purée won't make much of a difference at this stage. Unless your baby is obviously uncomfortable or finding it hard to poo/the consistency is hard I wouldn't worry. By the way my dd is 13 now and still doesn't go daily in spite of a healthy balanced diet so it's just the way she's made!
