My son had a temperature Saturday evening which went away. On Sunday his temp was up again and he had a red sore near his mouth which got worse and is now crusty looking. His legs and arms are covered in spots (like pimples) and his feet are incredibly itchy. He was awake all night trying to scratch them. His toes look swollen and red. There are spots on soles of feet and also really badly in under arm creases and nappy (bum) area. I went to the pharmacist who instantly said hand foot and mouth just glancing at his face and told me to go to the docs for antibiotics (?!) I thought it was viral!
I then contacted the GP who won't see him in person yet but said he thinks it's impetigo and have an antibiotic cream. He said it might be HFAM but it isn't inside his mouth and the mark on his face looks like impetigo. He thinks the rash could be an allergy. He said it could be HFAM but he wouldn't prescribe anything for that anyway.
I don't know what to do. Do I use the cream everywhere in case it's impetigo? Do I just wait and hope it goes? The under arms look awful!! Like he's been neglected (he hasn't!) And I don't want to leave them with no cream but if it's viral maybe I should. Argh any ideas?? And I don't want to put this cream on his sensitive bum area just in case so have just been using sudocrem.
Thanks!
