Diarrhoea after hand foot and mouth

Hi all,

Posted the other day about my little girl having hand foot and mouth and had really good advice. She's mainly recovered from that - spots/rash are all healing, no more vomiting or fever and her mood is back to normal

However, throughout she's had really bad diarrhoea. Her nappy area is the only place where the rash is still red raw and open. Her poo is literally liquid. Like poo stained water and rarely has any actual food lumps to it. It is also sometimes green. She doesn't have a soft spot anymore (or not that I can feel). She hasn't cried recently to see if she's crying tears. She is drinking as normal (around 9oz of water a day and 7-8oz of milk). However it occurred to me today that I'm not sure how much she is weeing due to the frequency of diarrhoea. Every hour or 2, she is having diarrhoea and therefore can't tell if she's weed. She didn't eat breakfast today, so had a good 3-4 hour gap between poops and she did not wee during this time. I'll continue to monitor, but if she has diarrhoea again, I won't be able to see if she did do a wee.

She seems okay in herself so don't think I need to go to a&e, but wondering if I'm ok to leave her till tomorrow to see GP or to ring 111? Or are there other signs of dehydration? She's 16 months.

We are having at least 5 episodes of liquid poop a day, they leak every single time and she is doing it in her sleep and doesn't cry to us to tell us so keep finding her in the morning covered in dry diarrhoea 🥴 even if she just does a fart, a splash of liquid poo comes out.

My little one is going through the exact same thing. Has just had hand foot and mouth, has healed from it so no spots or anything. He's back to himself which is nice but a few days ago he started having watery nappies. Having to change his clothes everyone too.

How's your little one now?

Sorry I never saw your reply! She got diagnosed with lactose intolerance not long after. The GP thinks she had hfam and gastroenteritis at the same time and said the gastroenteritis had temporarily damaged her stomach lining so was unable to process lactose. Her poo became solid within 24 hours of being dairy free. We're on week 4 now, and if we give her normal dairy she has diarrhoea within an hour. Been told it could last months, years or forever
