Hi everyone my 19 month old toddler has refused to eat anything apart from fish, potato shapes, beans and scrambled egg for a few weeks now. She used to be brilliant with her food and eat everything but now refuses every time and heaves. I’ve tried putting vegetables on her plate in the hope she will try then, blending vegetables on mash. Even letting her see me cook them but she point blank refuses to eat any other food. She loves certain fruits but I’m scare of how unhealthy her diet is becoming. I even refuse to make a new meal and she would go to bed without . I’m stuck what to do.

Is anyone else’s toddler the same
Is this a phase. She used to eat brilliantly at nursery too and now goes most of the day without a substantial amount of food

Tbh if she’s eating all those things plus fruit, that’s a fairly comprehensive diet. Obviously it would be great if she was eating a larger range but that’s just how it’s goes at this age unfortunately.

You ask if anyone else’s toddler is the same. I would be more surprised if you found a toddler that wasn’t the same tbh.

It's really normal for toddlers to exercise this type of control over what they eat. Part of growing independence. Those foods are all pretty nutritious to be honest. Does she still like full fat cows milk or breast milk if you're still feeding? Do you give her vitamins? A, C & D recommended and found in most multivitamins. Offer the foods she likes and each day add a new food to the plate alongside it. Of she tries it great. If she pokes at it great. Don't discuss it or make too much fuss around food. Just let her do her thing. As long as her weight is steady she'll be fine. Keep offering new foods. It takes up to 20 tastes for them to like a new flavour/texture.

I bet she's not wasting away before your eyes.

Give us a list of what she ate today. Include all drinks.

Hi we have a 3yr old placed with us, and we are going through the same thing, he would eat something and then say his throat hurt and wouldn't swallow, he just cried and cried. This happened alot, and after many calls to our GP and HV it turned out to be reflux, the foods he always loved would burn his throat. He stopped eating most things, and would just have toast, banana, and yoghurt. I was beside myself with worry. I was told by the Dr, not to let him go to bed hungry, and she gave me Omprezole for him. It's been a week now since he started it, and slowly he is starting to eat more variety again. Another issue he has started is textures of certain foods. Hope you get your little one sorted.
