Toddler illness - sick infrequently and sleeping a lot!

Has anyone else experienced this with their toddlers lately? For the past 3-4 days DS (20 months) has been sick twice or three times a day - sometimes in his sleep and sometimes just after food. He’s incredibly lethargic and is sleeping a lot, he’s awake for 2 to 3 hours before falling asleep again. When he is awake he’s just wanting cuddles and sits on the sofa which is so unlike him.

I’ve rang 111 and they’ve said to contact our GP if he’s the same tomorrow but as the time goes on I’m just getting more and more concerned for him. When he’s awake he’s responsive and will ask for toast and a drink, he’s drinking plenty - in fact more than usual and nappies are wet so there are no concerns he’s dehydrated. It’s just so awful to see him like this, he’s usually a live wire who doesn’t sit still at all!

I know there’s lots of nasty stomach bugs and illnesses around at the moment but I just wish I knew what was wrong.

Aw bless him, that's great he is drinking and having a bit too eat at least. I would also keep an eye and phone tomorrow if no better as it'll have been a few days by then, but caveat with follow your instincts, and if you aren't happy try to push to get him seen today.

I struggle with anxiety so never know if it’s that or genuine instincts. I’ve had covid the past couple of weeks (now out of the isolation period) we didn’t test DS as he was isolating with us anyway but I’m wondering if it could be that? but then I also came down with sickness and diarrhoea last night so 111 said it’s unlikely to be covid if I have it too. I’m feeling okay today though so mine was short lived - only sick once and diarrhoea for a few hours.

There does seem to be a lot of sickness bugs around at the moment, DS was poorly for around a week and I had a dodgy stomach for a while, which is unusual for a bug! I agree it's hard to judge, as you've spoken to 111 and they usually err on the side of caution it does sound by the wet nappies etc as well that cuddles and sleep is the best thing at the moment- but it is hard. If you also have it does sound like a bug, hope you're feeling better soon too!

It just seems a really strange sickness bug, he went 22 hours without being sick so I thought he was over the worst of it and then he was sick again. I always thought with sickness bugs it’s more frequent sickness in a shorter period of time? he hasn’t had a poo since Thursday either but I guess that’s because he’s barely eating and when he does eat he’s usually sick afterwards.
