DS is 12. He was a perfect weight for his height until the pandemic and starting secondary school. Always had the potential to be “chubby” but was active so it was kept at bay. At primary school they run around a lot more during break etc. He did after school sports etc. That all got cancelled due to Covid and he then moved on to big school.
There are multiple issues with his eating. He loves certain foods which are easy to overeat and classed as junk. He has got more and more fussy as he has got older and is hard to please at dinner time unless it’s pizza or chips etc. I’ve tried to offer healthy meals, baked goods with natural sugar instead of refined, vegetables with his meals that just get left. He loves anything cheesy but cauliflower cheese - nope! He even pushes away mashed potatoes if it has “bits” in it. He will eat tomato sauce on pizza but the same on pasta - no. It’s explained to him that it’s the same sauce but no.
Since the pandemic, he sits around a lot. No interest to exercise and since I feel the same, I understand! I just don’t want him to become obese and unhappy. I also don’t want to deprive him or give him a complex. Please be kind, I am genuinely concerned and feel stuck.
