My 9.5 year old has always been small especially compared with our other daughters (we have 4 other daughters). She was 6 pounds 1 born full term so small but not abnormally so.

She has been short but we didn’t worry too much as she was healthy but the last couple of years she hasn’t grown much at all.

She is 9.5 and 121 cm which puts her on the 2nd centile I think. She has dropped from the 9th 2 years ago.

Her siblings are significantly taller (she is now about the same height as my 5 year old)

I took her to the gp because I was starting to worry about it and she took it surprisingly seriously which has me worried!

She has blood tests next week and X-rays tomorrow and has been reffered to the children’s hospital.

Does anyone have any experience of this!?

I have of course Googled the crap out of it since seeing the gp on Thursday but I am really none the wiser.

The only thing is that 2nd centile doesn’t seem THAT short so is it likely the children’s hospital will just say “wait for a growth spurt as I hVe been imagining?”

I already have two Autistic children and tbh I have had enough of diagnosis and appointments I just want to go a month without someone telling what what is “wrong” with my children!

My DD has had similar a couple of years younger, actually 3.5 years younger when first investigated. In the last year and a half, pretty much nothing has actually happened in terms of treatment, though j think we could have got growth hormone if we'd pushed. It's been quite slow, so I wouldn't panic, you'll probably have lots of time to consider and adjust.

My dd has friends that height and she is 10. I am surprised they took it so seriously. My dd is now 139cm so no a huge amount taller than your dd, and she was much less than this last year

I know they can X-ray the wrist bone to see the density, and this will give an indication of how much more growing the child will do, and you get a predicted height. Hopefully this along with the other tests will put your mind at rest.

Mine had this. She was below the bottom line of the chart in the red book for a long time. Investigated for lots of things. Had blood tests, x-rays etc and was under review by the hospital for a long time. Nothing was ever found amiss and she is now an adult and is 5’2”.

Sound slike the Gp is being v thorough.

It may be more you seeming to say she hasnt grown as much this last yr or 2.
121 at 5yo would be really tall. It's the height of an average 7yo.

Friends DD stopped growing, blood tests revealed underactive thyroid. Can be lots of reasons.
