Hi so my husband picked our 5 and a half year old dd up from school today and he said when he picked her up the teacher told him they’ve noticed she has a burst blood vessel in her eye but they don’t know how it happened as she hasn’t hurt herself, I suffer with Anxiety and I’ve gone into panic mode as she didn’t have this this morning and my kids have never had anything like this before. I have called the opticians and they are going to call me back but just wondering if anyone knows what this is. Dd said she never hurt herself but her eye was itchy and she rubbed it quite hard so I don’t know whether she’s burst a blood vessel.

I would get it checked but it just looks like a burst blood vessel to me

Thank you! Just booked her in for the morning just to get it checked for my own peace of mind!

My little one had a mark when she was 10 months old, but it was more like a line. I knew what it was because she scratched her eyes in front of me. I am a very anxious person so rang the GP straight away. GP didn’t prescribe anything but asked me to contact her if it didn’t fade in 3-4 days. Fortunately it faded away. I think your girl’s is also the same, but you are doing the right thing to get it checked.

I had this happen as a teenager (right on the edge of my iris). Just get the optician to check it out for your own peace of mind.

It'll just be from rubbing her eye hard. It can also come from crying or sneezing hard. It's nothing honestly and will go in a day or 2 as the blood gets reabsorbed. It's a bit like a bruise but in the eye.

Thank you for replying it’s put my mind at ease a bit. Just panicked because when I dropped her off at school this morning it wasn’t like that plus It’s never happened before. I spoke to the opticians who said it just sounds like a burst blood vessel but they will check her if I’m worried about it. She did say she was rubbing her eye because it was itchy and at the same time she was coughing into her arm, so I guess it is just from that. Thank you for your reply
