Hair loss 9 year old boy

Hi.
My 9 year old has hair loss around the crown of his head.
It feels like there might be regrowth but I think he has lost the hair from fiddling with it.
Any and all advice to help him kick this wee habit welcome.

DS gave himself a bald spot, about the size of a 50p piece, when I saw it I actually gasped so he asked what was wrong.
I gave him a hug and said what I’d seen. He asked me to take a photo so he could see. It must have shocked him because he completely stopped and it regrew quite quickly.

Would a fidget cube or something similar keep his hands busy enough so that he maybe stops fiddling with his hair?
