6 week baby assessment- red eye reflux

Hi, DD had her 6 week assessment done by the GP and while checking her eyes for the red eye reflex, he mentioned it wasn't as red as he wanted it to be. Now just to be 100 percent sure that nothing is wrong, we are being referred to a pediatrician or opthalmologist. But DD had her red eye reflex checked by a pediatrician when she was a couple of days old and it was alright then. Should I be worried ? (The GP said that he could be wrong or maybe he didn't know to check properly, hence the referral )

Happened to me. DS was referred to local eye hospital. No issues after tests there. They said it was fairly common as some GPs can't create the right conditions in the room with light etc when looking into the eye and if they can't be sure they must refer on. My son has very dark eyes ( brown but almost black ) which apparently made it harder ? Try not to worry. You should get seen really quickly and hopefully all will be well

Hi there. Certain ethnicities don’t tend to have such a red reflex- they can appear paler with some skin tones. Is this something that could apply? So could be totally normal and he’s just not used to checking for the reflex for people of your ethnicity?
