Breastfeeding and the COVID vaccine

Hi all

I’m due to have the vaccine this week but I’m still unsure whether to have it as I’m still breastfeeding my 10 month old.

What have others done? Has anyone spoken to their GP about it?

Thanks

Some useful info here on vaccines generally:

www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/vaccinations/

And Covid specific here:

www.rcog.org.uk/en/guidelines-research-services/coronavirus-covid-19-pregnancy-and-womens-health/covid-19-vaccines-and-pregnancy/covid-19-vaccines-pregnancy-and-breastfeeding/

In general the biology of vaccines makes it very unlikely they can have adverse effects via breast milk.

Of health worker colleagues those who breastfeed have been pretty keen to get vaccinated too.

I'm breastfeeding and have had the first AZ. Not sure if Pfizer is preferred now though.

Wendy Jones has some good info on the drugs and breastmilk site

I’m wondering the same OP, feeding my 10 month old and thought I’d made up my mind to have it but have had a wobble. I think the thing with AZ and blood clots has made it harder to believe the “it’s fiiiiiine” message being put out. I think I will still end up having t he vaccine but I am nervous so putting it off a bit!!!

I’m still feeding my 6mo, had first Pfizer when she was 6 weeks old, and second when she was 14 weeks. I had no concerns.

I've had both Pfizer doses. I wanted to pass on any antibodies I could to DS.

I'm breastfeeding my 8 month old and getting my first dose in a few days. I think it will be Pfizer (I'm 35). Didn't even occur to me not to get the vaccine.

See www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/wp-content/dibm/2019-09/Covid%20vaccination%20and%20Breastfeeding.pdf

I could understand the hesitation if you were pregnant but with breastfeeding I think it's a bit of a no brainer tbh.

I just had the Pfizer one and I'm breastfeeding a two week old. I can't see any precedent for a vaccine being bad for a breastfeeding child so not worried at all. I'm looking forward to my second dose and hoping I will pass the immunity onto my baby.
