My husband brushed her teeth after breakfast at 7.30 this morning and accidentally grabbed the tube, which is a similar size to her toothpaste. He is beside himself, I am so upset with him but it was an honest mistake, we are both very sleep deprived right now. We of course rang 111 immediately and they talked us through it in a very thorough way (they consulted with the National Poisons Centre) but did not suggest we go to hospital as she has shown no symptoms at all, in fact has been happy and delightful and full of beans all day. He only used the tiniest amount (she only has 2 teeth) and realised after about 10 seconds what he had done, obv washed her mouth out and she had a full stomach of porridge and banana. She is sleeping peacefully now after bouncing around all day happy as larry, and I want to shake off the horror in the pit of my stomach but can't get over the fact she swallowed a poison today, and have found some stuff on medical sites suggesting with depilatory poisoning the patient can seem fine immediately afterwards and weeks after problems develop - basically it burns a hole in your gut. So obviously I can't stop worrying about that now. Whenever I have a worry about her there are usually 1000 posts on mumsnet about the same thing which I always find reassuring but no-one at all seems to have had this problem - is there anyone out there who can reassure me from direct experience?! Thanks in advance x

I totally understand but try to put it out of your mind. The national poison centre are the ones to trust on this, not something you read on the internet (I don't mean that in a nasty way, I'm very guilty of consulting dr google too).

It's quite a specific situation so that's probably why there aren't loads of similar stories. But most parents have got some tale or other like this where they made a mistake and beat themselves up about it for ages. It's just what happens when you have kids!

Thank you for your reply, and being so compassionate about my anxiety, it has helped to reassure me!

Something similar happened to my two year old today and I'm looking for answers everywhere desperately. Google is only scaring me more. Was your baby ok
