Swollen glands in 6 yo neck - should I be worried?

Hi all,

My 6yo daughter pointed out a swollen lymphnode under her skin in her neck about a month ago. She actually has two, one slightly smaller than the other. They both move under the skin. This came after a period of about six weeks where she was on and off unwell with a bout of tonsilitis and then a cold, but she's been fine since. However, the nodes didn't go down. She is otherwise very healthy and is eating well and is her usual self. We had a face to face appointment with the doctor to get them checked today and they have now referred us for an ultrasound to be on the safe side. I'm aware the swollen nodes are fairly common but of course, my mind is completely running away with me and I'm absolutely thinking the worst. I'm a single parent and the only parent in my daughter's life so I haven't really got anyone to talk it over with. Has anyone had similar experience with nodes? I suppose I'm just looking for reassurance, really before I end up driving myself insane with "what ifs." Tia x

Hi my DS had these movable glands a lot in his neck at same age. I was always in the doctor as was very anxious. She said they were normal and they only worried when they were size of golf balls. He still gets them under his chin now and again and he's 21.

My DD had one on her scalp as well.

I get these a lot, and have for as long as I can remember, they never got any bigger and have never related to any serious illness that I know of (I'm mid 30s now)

My 9 year old has a number of nodes swollen on both sides of his neck. He started with them about 18 months ago and we noticed more after the first 6 months so took him to see the doctor who referred him for an ultra scan. It showed that he has numerous swollen nodes on both sides (50+) but they are mostly very small with just a few larger ones but not large enough to be thought of as a result of cancer which was my biggest fear. They don't know why this has happened but say some children have an infection previously and the nodes don't go back down. My son has had two sets of blood tests 3 months apart but the doctors never got back in touch so I assumed everything is normal. He is healthy otherwise and I have no other concerns with him so it's just a monitor kind of situation and hope they eventually go back down. I hope this is reassuring to you a bit.
