Undiagnosed epilepsy EEG today when to 'give up'?

Looking for views on this please. Background is DS7, yr 2, started getting vacant episodes (seconds long and often in clusters) in Reception. He says afterwards that he has just had 'gloomy eyes'. His eldest brother had very similar episodes and was diagnosed with (daytime) Benign Rolandic epilepsy after an EEG. I have a niece with the same condition.

Since starting school DS has been very behind despite presenting as a normal, bright, well-behaved child. We are investigating ADD and Dyslexia but have been purposely taking it slow to try and understand a bit more about what his barriers to learning actually are. I am genuinely perplexed, despite being dyslexic myself and having another son with ASD. I don't feel I understand it at all!

He had his third EEG today. First one showed some weird activity but not enough for a diagnosis, follow up showed nothing and I will get the results from this in a week, but expecting nothing again.

If it shows nothing then I assume I will know that his problems lie somewhere other than epilepsy? He gets these episodes 2-3 times a week but because they are so quick I have never seen one.

Any advice?
