8 year old ear pain (wax pic)

My 8 year old has been complaining of ear pain for weeks. It’s often worse after a bath. She says it ‘pops’ at times, other days she just mentions discomfort. Anyway, I’ve looked in her ear, there’s a lump of wax but behind that it looks black in places. It’s just one ear that hurts. I’m not sure what the best treatment is for her but am trying some ear drops from the pharmacy as a start. Any advice would be great !
Thanks

My ds suffered for years when he was younger. The best thing we ever did was have micro suction. He was a little frightened at first but the doctor was very patient and let him try the suction on his hands first and went at ds' pace. Best thing we ever did for his ears.

Can you get the GP to have a look inside your child’s ear?

I’m not sure about the wax. But my ds has had really painful ears a few times (think it was caused by water) and he had to have antibiotics to clear it up.

I had to take DD for micro-suction when she was 5 as she had so much wax it was affecting her hearing. It took a few appointments and in between the man doing it said to use hydrogen peroxide ear drops and they really helped (I’m fairly sure it was hydrogen peroxide - it went ‘bubbly’ in her ear, she didn’t like it but bribery helped! They worked really well)

I’ve just had another look and can see something white down there. She’s admitted she stuck a cotton bud in her ear months ago. Have contacted GP!

Good luck OP!

BefuddledPerson · 28/10/2020 15:38

Hopefully no permanent damage and the pain gets resolved when it is removed!

Ilovecheese53 · 28/10/2020 15:39

It could be anything. My aunt had a problem and had something removed from her ear at the hospital.

It was the back of an earring!

I hope you get it sorted soon.

We will see, we have an appointment at 4pm! I will update later today

Oh dear. Deff get an appointment at the GP asap. If you can see the swab it's unlikely to have gone down as far as the drum. May have gotten a bit infected too. Some microsuction and a week of ear drops should set her right as rain.

Seedbomb · 28/10/2020 15:49

Oh bless hope she gets sorted quickly!

QuestionableMouse · 28/10/2020 15:52

Ear pain is rubbish. Hope the GP can help.

Missmiller · 28/10/2020 17:04

They couldn’t remove it. When they looked through the otoscope they said it was black and lots of it, so not sure what the white thing I saw was. We have to use olive oil drops week then go back x

They think it’s a plug of black, tarry wax
