Hi, can someone please advise as am worried sick and GP is no help. Daughter (will be 11 in a couple of weeks) started first period 2 wks ago. Was normal and started turning brownish after 3-4 days, then the next day increased and became bright red again. And hasn't stopped since. 😢 It's not too heavy (2 pads per 24 hours) and no cramps, but yesterday became slightly heavier as she needed to change a pad after about 7 hours. Has anyone come across anything like this? Called GP who said 'wait and see'. Wait for what?? She's ok in herself, just worried, too, but otherwise her usual self. Am not myself worried as the internet says anything over 7 days is abnormal and can mean a lot of things... Would be grateful if people share their experience if they know of this kind of thing going away... shall I take her to A&E??

My DD started hers last year aged 14. But they did go on and on. I don't think your DD needs to go to A&E because it does sound menstrual.
Went to the GP when my DD had reached Day 15 of yet another heavy period (changing pads every 3hrs or so, leaking at night etc). The periods were long every month and sometimes only a couple of weeks between. The flow would vary a fair bit too. GP put her on tranexamic tablets (to reduce blood flow) and iron supplements. If it gets very heavy or goes on for a couple more weeks then go back to GP.
My DD went on the pill after about 7 months of that because changing the pads and cleaning up at school became too much.
I'd give your daughter a chance to see if it settles. Fingers crossed it's just a blip at the start.

Thanks sadie9. Has the pill sorted out the duration of period? How long is she supposed to be on the pill for?
