Noticed earlier that my Dd has 2 of these marks on one eye in the whites of her eye.
Does anyone know what it could be?
Was also wondering if it could be something related to race, dd is mixed race, I have noticed another mixed race child with the same sort of mark a few months ago.

Dd has been to the opticians in January and no issues reported then

It looks fine to me

underneaththeash · 21/05/2020 21:04

it's called epithelial melanosis - it's common in people who aren't caucasian.

@underneaththeash thank you, is it anything to worry about? Or just something that comes and goes

Is it getting bigger? It’s something that is unlikely to become anything serious but should be checked

No, nothing. Very, very occasionally they become sinister, but your daughter's is flat and small. If you have a good look on the other eye, you'll probably see some there too. You've got a good photograph and can compare it if you do think it changes (it may darken slightly).

It's very common in those with darker skin and the optician last time probably didn't think to mention it.

Incidentally, it isn't normal in white-skinned people who don't have brown eyes, especially if you're middle aged/older and needs to be looked at ASAP.

Thank you so much, this is really useful Smile

I’ve only just noticed it but will keep an eye on its size

My sons has these too - he is fair skinned but dark haired and dark eyed. I was told by the GP that they are nothing to worry about unless they change - I was also told that they are common in people with FAIR skin 😂 maybe I should get it double checked. I assume an optician will be just as good if not better, he is due to have his first eye test.
