My 5 month old dd2 suddenly developed eczema a few weeks ago. Bit of a shock as there’s no history of it (or any of the associated things like hay fever or asthma) on either side of the family. It was worst on her forehead, but patches all over her body inc. knee and elbow folds.
GP initially prescribed 1/2 % hydrocortizone cream for 1 week, but it didn’t make much if a difference. He then changed it to 1% + antifungal as he said sometimes it can be fungal and look the same, and 2 giant pots of Epaderm liquid paraffin moisturiser. This has mostly cleared her up, although in the meantime an a&e doctor saw her (thankfully false alarm for something else) and said definitely eczema, so i’m assuming it’s just the stronger hydrocortizone that’s done the job.
I’m coming to the end of the 2 weeks he said to use the ointment and whilst the worst has gone, i notice new little patches most days. My question to more experienced people - do i continue to use the steroid whenever a new patch appears, or trust that the moisturiser will magic them away? And is it usual to keep getting new patches, albeit tiny ones? Thank you
