9 mo DS has had a temp on and off for the last 5 days, spiked at 39.7 again tonight. He has a stinking cold and a phlegmy cough. No rash or anything at bath time last night.

I'm acutely aware of the pressure on health services and don't know want to contact them unnecessarily but DS has never had an illness (minor or otherwise) that has lasted this long!!

Yes phone the GP tomorrow but I’m saying this only because of his age. He can’t tell you what’s wrong or how he’s feeling and despite the current chaos hes a baby Flowers

How is he in himself? This is always the first question my GP would ask.

If he is lethargic, struggling to drink, hasn't eaten anything for those 5 days then yes, you need medical attention now. In this situation I also check for signs of laboured breathing (ribs sucking in, 'tummy breathing', gasping, wheezing) and would definitely contact 111, or GP if in opening hours.

My DD (nearly 3) has always gone for proper high numbers on the thermometer if she's going to bother being unwell. I generally don't even medicate her unless it goes over 39 as she can have a temp of 39.5 and be playing happily! I've gradually learned that she can have high temperatures but be ok with it.

Thanks both for replying.

He's somewhat manic at the moment and wants to play (but has always been like that when he has a high temp!)

Eatng normal ish amounts -seems very thirsty tonight but that might just be avoiding sleep!
