12yo sudden vomiting then hip/thigh pain

DS1 (12) had a sudden onset of vomiting a couple of days ago. This passed quickly but he has been left with a seemingly random pain in his right hip/upper thigh that came on at exactly the same time. He can walk but only stiffly and has needed Calpol for the last couple of days.

About a month ago the exact same thing happened. Vomiting followed by a few days of pain and stiffness in the same place. At the time I didn't think too much of it but this seems like too much of a coincidence.

He's otherwise fine in himself, no temp etc. Pain not bad enough to rush to the GP though obviously I'll take him next week if it's still there.

Anyone had anything similar? I've no idea what it could be!

He's a bit old for it (usually affects preschool/primary age children) but there's a thing called 'irritable hip' which can be caused by viral illness - if virus caused vomiting. Odd for it to happen twice though. Was he 100% well, no limping, between the 2 bouts?

Yes fine in between, running / walking / doing karate etc. Just Googled and that does seem to match his symptoms. Auto immune stuff runs in the family (he has various allergies, I have ulcerative colitis) so maybe that makes him more susceptible?

osteomyelitis?
can also be autoimmune

Check his temp. I would take him to GP anyway in the next week. Grumbling appendix can have symptoms like this.

We went to out of hours doc on Wednesday night as I was concerned about appendix but she checked and said no immediate cause for alarm. I thought then it was abdominal pain but it is definitely more around his hip
